About AGOSA OLUWASEGUN :
Tell us about your artistic background and experience. What led you to pursue art as a creative outlet?:
My name is Agosa Oluwasegun, also known as ShegzyArt—a naturally gifted artist from Nigeria. Growing up, art became my way of expressing thoughts and emotions I couldn’t put into words. Inspired by culture, faith, and life around me, I turned my talent into a serious path by studying Fine Art at Yaba College of Technology (ND level). For me, art is more than a skill—it’s a voice, a form of healing, and a way to impact others through creativity.
What inspires you as an artist? Are there specific themes or subjects that you find yourself drawn to?:
I am deeply inspired by life, spirituality, and human emotions. I find myself drawn to themes that explore identity, faith, inner battles, and the unseen strength within people. My work often carries a spiritual undertone, using symbols, motion, and texture to express stories that words sometimes can't capture.
What do you hope to communicate or evoke through your art? Is there a specific message or emotion that you strive to convey to your audience?
Through my art, I aim to evoke reflection, healing, and connection. I want viewers to feel seen, moved, or challenged—to pause and think deeply. Whether it's through abstract expressions or figurative storytelling, I strive to communicate hope, resilience, and the presence of something greater beyond what we see.
Are there any particular artists or art movements that have influenced your work? How have they shaped your artistic perspective?
Yes, I’m inspired by artists like Kehinde Wiley and Ben Enwonwu, who blend culture, identity, and storytelling so powerfully. Movements like Afrofuturism and Abstract Expressionism also influence my approach, encouraging me to explore freedom in form and boldness in message. Their works have taught me how to mix tradition with innovation and speak truth through visual art.
How do you handle criticism or feedback on your artwork? How do you use it to grow and improve as an artist?
I see criticism as an opportunity to grow and sharpen my craft. While it's not always easy, I listen carefully, reflect on the feedback, and use it to refine both my technique and message. Constructive criticism helps me see my work from new perspectives and pushes me to be more intentional in what I create.
Are there any specific goals or aspirations you have for your artistic career? How do you plan to pursue them?
My goal is to become a globally recognized artist who uses creativity to inspire and impact lives. I aspire to host solo exhibitions, collaborate across cultures, and mentor young creatives. I plan to pursue this by staying consistent in my practice, showcasing my work through exhibitions and social platforms, and continually learning from both experience and education.
