About Daramola Paul:
Tell us about your artistic background and experience. What led you to pursue art as a creative outlet?:
I've always seen art as a way to express the things words can't describe. Growing up, I found peace in drawing, and over time, it became more than a hobby it became my voice. I started with simple sketches and evolved into charcoal and surrealism, focusing on emotional and symbolic themes. Each piece I create reflects a part of my story, thoughts, or imagination. Art gives me a purpose, and it's my way of connecting with the world around me.
What inspires you as an artist? Are there specific themes or subjects that you find yourself drawn to?:
I'm inspired by deep emotions, dreams, and human struggles. I’m naturally drawn to surrealism merging nature, emotion, and symbolism into my pieces. I love turning invisible feelings into visible art. Most of my works explore solitude, hope, pain, and the power of the human spirit through mysterious landscapes, faces, or symbolic stories.
What do you hope to communicate or evoke through your art? Is there a specific message or emotion that you strive to convey to your audience?
I want my art to speak emotions loudly to connect deeply with people’s hearts. My drawings often reflect inner struggles, silence, and resilience. I hope people feel seen, understood, or even comforted through the visuals. Every piece is a silent conversation meant to stir something personal in each viewer.
Are there any particular artists or art movements that have influenced your work? How have they shaped your artistic perspective?
I’m influenced by the surrealism movement and artists like Salvador Dalí for their storytelling and imaginative depth. Also, Nigerian charcoal artists who focus on raw realism and symbolic meanings have shaped how I approach emotion and detail in my pieces.
How do you handle criticism or feedback on your artwork? How do you use it to grow and improve as an artist?
I welcome feedback because it helps me grow. I don’t take it personally, I filter what’s useful and use it to improve my techniques and storytelling. Every piece is a journey, and criticism often pushes me to see from another perspective and challenge myself.
Are there any specific goals or aspirations you have for your artistic career? How do you plan to pursue them?
My goal is to become one of the most respected artists in the world, known for meaningful charcoal and surreal artwork. I plan to keep improving my skills, participate in international exhibitions and competitions, and eventually build a platform that inspires other African artists to chase their dreams too.
