About Jesse Onuche :
Tell us about your artistic background and experience. What led you to pursue art as a creative outlet?:
I was born with the talent ,I loved drawing since childhood
What inspires you as an artist? Are there specific themes or subjects that you find yourself drawn to?:
My favourite theme is capturing spiritual and emotional depth especially through cultural, biblical, and expressive human moments. I love exploring the unseen faith, identity, and resilience bringing them to life in realistic or symbolic ways. My art is often a dialogue between tradition and meaning."
What do you hope to communicate or evoke through your art? Is there a specific message or emotion that you strive to convey to your audience?
Through my art, I hope to communicate truth, hope, and spiritual awareness. I want my audience to feel something deeper whether it’s peace, conviction, or inspiration. Most of my work is rooted in purpose, especially biblical or cultural themes, so I strive to create pieces that speak to the soul and remind people that there’s more to life than what we see."
Are there any particular artists or art movements that have influenced your work? How have they shaped your artistic perspective?
Yes, there are a few artists and movements that have deeply influenced my work. One of them is Michelangelo Buonarroti, whose biblical sculptures and paintings captured divine power with emotional intensity. Another is Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose raw expression and cultural depth inspired me to embrace storytelling through symbols and bold imagery. I’m also influenced by the African art movement, especially traditional Benin and Igbo art, which shaped how I value identity, history, and spiritual connection in my work. These influences have taught me to blend faith, culture, and emotion into every piece I create."
How do you handle criticism or feedback on your artwork? How do you use it to grow and improve as an artist?
see criticism and feedback as an opportunity to grow. Art is personal, but it's also a journey of learning. When I receive feedback—whether positive or critical I try to listen with an open heart, reflect on it, and see how it can help me improve. I don’t take it as an attack but as a tool. Some of the most powerful growth in my work has come from honest observations. At the same time, I stay true to my message and calling, while allowing room to evolve."
Are there any specific goals or aspirations you have for your artistic career? How do you plan to pursue them?
"Yes, I have clear goals for my artistic career. One of my main aspirations is to create artworks that speak globally but remain rooted in faith, culture, and purpose. I want to exhibit my work in galleries both in Nigeria and internationally, and also use my art to tell stories that inspire spiritual reflection and transformation. I plan to achieve this by staying consistent, building a strong portfolio, connecting with other artists and mentors, and using digital platforms to share my work with a wider audience. I also hope to train and mentor young artists in the future."
