About Blessing Mgbechi:
Tell us about your artistic background and experience. What led you to pursue art as a creative outlet?:
Okay, I've always loved art and painting since I was little but never had the chance to enroll in any of the art school due to where I base which is in Adamawa but I was opportune to study it as a subject in my primary and secondary school and that was it. During those time, I did few sketches as a child and teenager and after secondary I put a pause to it but the love and passion for art never stopped, it kept burning inside of me and God kept reminding me of it which is why I started drawing again after so many years even though I have no one who could teach me on art and it's techniques, what I do is I learn on my own through YouTube and join free online art classes which I enrolled this year. I see God helping me even as a beginner in art. When I see other artist works, it amazes me that too as helped in bringing to life my love for art.
What inspires you as an artist? Are there specific themes or subjects that you find yourself drawn to?:
The art or work of other artist inspires me. How that you could see a thing and be able to draw it just as it is.
Yes, visual art like drawing portraits, landscape, Painting and craft, graphic design too.
What do you hope to communicate or evoke through your art? Is there a specific message or emotion that you strive to convey to your audience?
I hear some persons saying they couldn't do art due to funds,Art are for those who have the money to do it, I don't know how to draw and so on, I too was in their but I didn't allow it limit me, so through my art I want to let other artist who are beginners with little or no knowledge about art and those who really have the love for Art that they can really draw just anything they want as long as you have your passion & pencils and to erase the mindset of "I couldn't continue due to funds,I don't have anyone to teach me. Social media has made things easier for us, one can start learning through YouTube if he/she has no opportunity to fund herself in art school just like me.
Are there any particular artists or art movements that have influenced your work? How have they shaped your artistic perspective?
Class Central, BlissArt, YouTube.
I encountered one of BlissArt work on Facebook and that one piece striked a code in me to push towards drawing a portrait, although I didn't get a chance to learn from her even after chatting her up. Class central which is a free platform for art has also helped me improved my artistic skill, on how to hold ur pencils as you draw, how to draw the outlines, how to to apply shading and highlight through some of their instructors like Proko, Jesse Jones while I mostly get more teachings on YouTube from Art by Oums and other artist on YouTube who draw really good. They've helped in improving my artistic skill
How do you handle criticism or feedback on your artwork? How do you use it to grow and improve as an artist?
I'm opened to it because it helps to build, shape, and improve our work. I heard lots of feedback from my friends and from Facebook, their feedbacks have always been a source of motivation for me
Are there any specific goals or aspirations you have for your artistic career? How do you plan to pursue them?
Yes, my goal for this year is to develop my artistic skill and to achieve it, I saw the opportunity to pay for a painting training online to pursue my career. I'm also learning through YouTube and I've enrolled in some free online classes too since I couldn't get a place where I can learn onsite where i base.
